That is my notes that I took while he was talking about his work:
Jon
Shard
15-20 min
with person. A lot of preparation, meeting for one shot. Had a rehearsal.
A lot of
times you going to have just 5-15 min with a person it is always best to be
prepared. It is important to have a plan B, because you will never know where
you will need to shoot.
Need to be
fast.
Sometimes
you might not have time to do a pre-light shoot, so need to be prepared for
everything. (Shooting outside)
He took 3
days before the final shoot just to get the lights right, so he knew on the day
what shot exactly he is going to get.
On most big
shoots, 2-3 people, client, advertising agency, art director, make-up artist and
so on. Everybody has to be involved. Need
to have a good relationship with an art director.
Some of the
times everything is going to be organised for you, so you need to know what you
want.
Always need
to have more lighting than you need. You need to have backups and all that kind
of stuff.
First of all,
to do exactly what the client wants, and then try to do your own idea. Most of
the times they might go with your idea.
Also need
to do a lot of research about the people, locations and so on.
If the
person if famous, look at all other images of them, to find out what the best
angle for them, how they best look. Show images of how they are looking to
encourage them.
Need to
talk with the people, because otherwise it is going to be very awkward,
chit-chat of is going to happen, what they want and later just a small talks
and so on.
Uses Capture
one.
