Fabrice Dall' Anese is a French-Italian
portrait photographer.
Fabrice studied international law in Paris,
London, and finally Munich. Until the unexpected happened.
The images he brought back from a holiday
in Cuba became a solo exhibition at the Spanish Cultural Institute, which led
to a five-month underwater photography assignment around the globe. When he
came back from his trip, his perspective on life - and his future career - had
changed.
Fabrice's innate curiosity for the others
has led him to focus on portraiture photography. His passion for cinema, to
become an acclaimed celebrity portraitist.
Before shooting a person he does all the research about them, non only their biography, but also looking how that person has been portrayed in the past. It allows to see how they're evolved, and whether they will be inclined to follow you on a certain path or not. He tries to avoid shooting the person in the pose they have cultivated over the years. He usually prepares the frame in advance, studies his subject's salient features, and have an opinion about their personality - but that's only twenty percent of what makes an image. Eighty per cent is what happens in those five minutes with the talent.
This image of George Clooney was taken in a hotel toilet! Photographer say that sometimes you need to improvise.
This image of famous pianist Lang Lang was also not planned. At the beginning he thought that he is going to shoot him playing the beautifully lit piano, but in the images it didn't look good, it was in the way. So he asked pianist to stand in the corner of the room and keep playing, and he did it!
The advice that he gives to a budding portrait photographers is: "Never doubt yourself. You take pictures for yourself before you do it for others, so if you think you have something inside of you and you want to pursue it and take all the risks and make the sacrifices that it can bring with it, then go for it. There's nothing worse that going through life full of regrets. It doesn't matter whether those pictures and up in Vanity Fair or on your own personal website what matters is that you took the plunge."(Anne-Celine Jaeger, 2010, 162p.)
